At Portland, ASPIRE isn’t just a word on a poster – it’s at the heart of who we are. It runs through our school like the lettering in a stick of rock, shaping a culture where high achievement, respect, collaboration and limitless aspiration are part of everyday life. As our most recent Ofsted report highlighted, Portland is home to a “community of like-minded staff and pupils” brought together by a shared commitment to our ASPIRE values.
Strong, meaningful relationships sit at the centre of our approach. We believe in truly knowing our children – understanding their individual strengths, personalities, and needs – so we can challenge and support them to flourish. From the moment they arrive each morning, our pupils are wrapped in the warmth of a school where they are happy, safe and deeply cared for.
We’re proud to offer an inspiring learning environment filled with carefully designed, purposeful spaces that spark curiosity and help children make powerful, lasting connections across our Connected Curriculum.
Our unique provision includes The Nest and The Den, which are dedicated learning spaces for pupils with autism, as well as The Workshop – a structured nurture provision for pupils with SEMH needs – alongside a calming sensory room and access to professional counselling support. Every classroom opens up to its own outdoor learning area and our expansive school grounds host magical Forest School sessions that bring learning to life beyond the walls of the classroom.
Our strong ties with the local community are a source of pride and joy for our school. From cultural celebrations to supportive workshops for parents in reading, maths and parenting, we’re always looking for ways to grow together. We also offer a wraparound care programme, including a welcoming breakfast club and a rich variety of after-school activities throughout the year.
